Election News NOT About Hillary

So far this bright Monday morning, there have been a couple of notable developments regarding the 2008 Presidential election, the first totally predictable but the second maybe not so much.

First, Senator Obama picked up another Superdelegate, WOO HOO! officially putting him in the lead in that measure. Representative Tom Allen from Maine, also a U.S. Senate candidate, endorsed Obama, saying:

"Most of the primary voters across the nation have now spoken. It is time to bring a graceful end to the primary campaign.

"We now need to unify the Democratic Party and focus on electing Sen. Obama and a working majority in the United States Senate. That is how we can change the direction of the country."

With this most recent endorsement, Obama now leads in superdelegates, 274 to the other candidate's (I said I wasn't going to mention her) 273. The steady trickle of Superdelegates flowing to Obama is expected to continue, barring another unexpected Lunatic ex-Pastor Explosion. But at least it's less embarrassing than Bill Clinton's constant Bimbo Explosions were....

Secondly, and speaking of "barring", today we heard that Georgia Republican-turned-Libertarian Bob Barr, former U.S. Representative and a current candidate for the Senate, is definitely running for the Libertarian Party's Presidential nomination, and is expected to win it easily. He'd announced the formation of an exploratory committee on April 5th, and he formally announced his candidacy today, which is widely expected to cost McCain a lot more votes in the general election.

Bob Barr was one of the central players in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, authored and sponsored the Defense of Homophobia Act, and was a leading opponent of medical marijuana, three things that put him on my permanent Shit List.
